On the mainland, the people used to ask two questions:
1) Are you married?
2) Do you want to buy dinner / transport / sarong / necklace ...?
Here, on Gili Trawangan, the locals have two different questions:
1) Have you been snorkeling?
2) Do you want magic mushrooms?
You see, it's pretty relaxed here: no cars, no motorbikes, just horseecarts
We have a great bungalow, with a veranda from which we can see the beach. The staff is the most caring and friendly bunch we've met so far and on the beach, they have some wooden verandas on stilts, with palm thatched roofs, great shady places for the scorching heat around midday.
Sounds like a 1st class resort? No, it's less than 3 EUR / day and, of course, with bucket bathroom with salt water only. Sweet water needs to be purchased in addition.
After relaxng from the exhausting travelling, we're now ready to party. Tonight, one of the diving schools is organising a pool party. Mind you, on the mainland it was unthinkable to get alcohol and thinly covered young ladies into one place. Indonesia is strictly muslim, you know.
Tomorrow, Rebecca will go diving, in spite of her bad, bad cold.
It's still very empty here, not as much as Sengiggi though. Still, we're looking forward to hitting the road again in a few days. Then, we'll head for Mount Rinjani. Till then, the wounds on our feet, from the coral pieces on the beach will have to heal.
Hang loose! Happy Days!
