Finally!!! After two very long flights I have arrived in Africa!!! The last flight from Switzerland was deinitely quite notable. I was quite daunted when I boarded the plane for my 8.5 hour flight only to discover that there was no entertainment on the flight at all. To add to my dismay there was a technical error which cost us an hour of waiting time onboard before we even took off. All of that was made better by the fact that I had a lovely flying companion ( and there was still free booze for me and my new whiskey drinking partner!). I wont say to much about him, except that he was a builder from Boston/ Nairobi and wonderful enough to tempt me to almost get off in Nairobi ad leave my backpack behind!!! I fought the urge however, and the suddenly not -long- enough flight arrived in Tanzania. There was no problem getting to my hotel of choice and booking in.
Would you believe that after not sleeping at all during my travels I was able to get a good nights rest and awake in the morning refresed and not at all jet lagged!!! I did however awaken at 5 am to the sound of muslim chanting being blasted over the whole city by giant speakers. ( It was actually really nice to wake up to) I have so far been walking around the city today, and I arranged a flight for Mtwara for tomorrow. My impressions so far have been great. everybody is friendly and call me rasta girl. It is bloody hot ( which I love) and since it is a national holiday everything is strangely shut down. I am not getting swarmed on the street, or really pestered at all which can occur in some big cities. I am going to go right now and check out the beach, and touch my toes in the Indian Ocean!! That is it for now, but stay tuned for more...
