I'm not sure why my Walmart experiences in China seem to provide me endless amounts of entertainment because back in North America, Walmart is usually just a utility shopping trip. I was walking through the store buying anything that I might need when I came across the condom isle. I walked up to check out what brands they had and what sizes they carried. The largest I found was the Big Boy at 57mm. I learned in Shenyang that you can't just buy a box of condoms in China and expect them to fit. Have you ever seen what chef's use on their fingers when they have a cut? I was surprised if not shocked when a sales girl came up to me while I was holding the Big Boy and told me that Trojans were the best in China and handed me a leaflet on the varieties Trojan had. I could hardly believe that staff training could possibly remove the cultural shyness if not outright taboo status condoms carry in China. I realized that this could be a very amusing conversation if I were to find the limits of her training. I asked her if Trojans were really that much better than Durex. She strongly agreed that they were. I could only see 2 personal lubricants and neither of them were made by Trojan. I asked her if they had a Trojan lube, but she said that they only had the 2. She told me that the Durex one was better as I pressed. I asked her how she knew or if that was the one she used. A quick blush fell across her face, but she continued on without much hesitation. I then asked her if the Durex lube was OK to be used "from behind" because "in the front", I don't need any. A deeper blush fell across her face and a hand came up to cover her nervously sheepish laugh. I picked up one of the boxes and asked if it would work, she nodded yes as she just about ran away with an ear to ear smile and the hint of laughing tears forming in her eyes. It's just not the same when the hundreds of blue vests asking "How may I help you?" just point in a general direction maybe accompanied by an aisle number.
