Repost of 2 days after Thailand Military Coup.

After reading stories about how tourists were going to Government House and taking pictures of and with the tanks and soldiers, I figured it would be safe to head over there and see for myself first hand what was going on and get some pictures. Strike a Pose

After all this was histroy in the making and Wikipedia had an entry for it and has updated it Thailand Miliatary Coup 2006.

I think some reporter was quoted as saying this is the most laid back military coup I've ever covered. I totally agree. When I went down to Tank Row, Tanks at Government House

there were 2 rows of 5 tanks lined up on the sides of the main street leading up to Government House. Hundredes of people were crowded all around the tanks and soldiers. Large Crowds

Some of the locals were handing the soldiers food and drinks. I saw a carefully orchestrated well dressed Thai girl filmed handing a bag of goodies to a very appreciative soldier, no doubt for a news clip. People had their children out with them posing with the soldiers so you know the locals felt safe. No School

The venders were selling everything from pancakes to cotton candy to add to the carnival like atmosphere. Cotton Candy Ice Cream

The tanks even had flowers on them just so you knew they were peaceful tanks. Tank Flowers

I guess if there is one place to be caught in the midst of a military coup, Thailand - The Land of Smiles, is the place to be.
