Hello BCerians and the rest of the world,
Today was our first break day since we left Rome 5 days and 400kms ago. We visited the Pompei Scavi ruins today, our first official touristic activity. Extensive but not the first amazing ruins site we've seen so far.
We actually noted the same type of wall structure and pottery at our first stealth camping site right off the highway 3 nights ago. Except instead of the €11 admission that one was blocked in by an electric cattle fence and covered with cow dung.
Finding sites to stealth on hasn't been easy, but it's worked out before dark every night so far. The first night out of Rome we picked a farm land and walked over to the house next to it. The conversation ended quickly once we reitterated the two sentences from our phrasebook asking permission to camp on his lot.
After a few 'non capisco's and mistakenly saying that we want to camp on his lot for 7 months we had a pleasant stay with offers of doccia, manjare, lavvagio....
Here we are now in Pompei at a camp ground across the street from the ruins appreciating the hot showers and the abundance of water to cook and do laundry with.
Until later,
Ainaz and Robin

Garbage strike in Napoli and the vicinity
Riding out of the Lazio region into Campania around Napoli the towns became alot poorer and garbage ridden. We heard there's a garbage strike, but it seems like this might just be the way it is around here. Camping in the ruins, Jambo
Two nights ago we took shelter behind a ruin wall left standing among a multitude of orchards and farms. But unfortunately the Italians took the opposite side of that wall for a good place to dump and burn their garbage.Robin gets police escorted out of Napoli
Yesterday we asked directions to Pompei in Torre Annunziata from the local police and they took on the task of escorting us out of town for 4kms. It was the most pleasant ride on the pot holed roads of Annunziata as no cars dared to pass the police car and so everyone was forced to travel at the speed of our bikes! Here we are now in Pompei at a camp ground across the street from the ruins appreciating the hot showers and the abundance of water to cook and do laundry with.
In Pompei

Very nice!
Good job finding places to camp. That takes a lot of guts and perseverance. Keep up the nice blogging.
