I spent the 2 days at Airlie Beach sitting around near the lagoon and enjoying the sun. On Sunday night I met a group celebrating a birthday and tagged along to the bars in town. I couldn't believe how cold it was at night so had to throw on a couple of layers of clothes. I was wearing flip-flops but it was so cold that I lost all feeling in my toes! Winter in Aus!

So we ended up visiting a good few bars during the night and played some drinking game called El Grapo. A dice game with rules like poker and I had the most impossible winning streak! I was rolling doubles every single time. Still drank far too much though and didn't get back until 3am.

During the day I had phoned a hostel in Bowen a couple of times to find out about work. They said it would be available in a few days so I booked a bus ticket there for the following morning. They said it would be fine as long as I got there early enough.

Struggled out of bed at 8am, packed my bag and headed off to the bus station. It was only an hour to Bowen ($17) and they showed the movie, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. Surely the stupidest movie title ever. Arrived in Bowen and realised I had a bit of a problem. Every hostel in town was totally booked! So they had lied yesterday when saying there was loads of room available.

Decided to ring a couple of hostels in Ayr, the next picking town north, and managed to book a room at Ayr Backpackers. Quickly visited the travel agent in Bowen and managed to get back on the same bus and continue north.

Arrived in Ayr and had no idea where the hostel was. The town of Ayr isn't even listed in the LP so I just had to wander round and try to find it! Took about 40 minutes walking around every street in town until I finally found it on the outskirts. I had read some dodgy reviews of the place online so it was my last choice but it seems good enough. It is almost a carbon copy of where I stayed in Yarra and I had a good time there so reckon the same will be the case here. Just going to have to sit around for a few days watching movies until work becomes available.
