It was midday by the time we had finished breakfast and packed up so we were behind schedule. After driving yesterday I had secured myself a passenger seat and seeing as the views are supposed to be spectacular it was probably for the best as I'd likely crash admiring the views.
There were a couple of sights in Lorne so we drove off to see the Erskine Falls a few kilometres inland. They were crap but I'm sure they would be more spectacular after a heavy downpour. Drove back to Lorne and to the Teddy Lookout which was incredible. Watching the cars wind their way around the windy roads on the cliffs with the sea in the background was breathtaking. Picture postcard stuff.
Back in the car and we sped off to Apollo Bay to checkout the view over town from Marriners Lookout which was also pretty stunning.
Could have stopped at a few other small towns further along but felt like we were delaying the inevitable, and we were behind schedule, so sped off towards Port Campbell. It's called the Great Ocean Road but the stretch between Apollo Bay and Port Cambell is all inland! Miles from the sea so I was a little disappointed. The views of the valleys were still quite superb though so it wasn't all bad.
The main attraction of the Great Ocean Road is the 12 Apostles. They were a fantastic sight and far better in person than any picture can do justice, trust me I took loads!
That seen we blitzed it along to Warrnambol, refueled (which we have to do every bloody 400km's!) and headed north towards the Grampians. Straight country C roads the whole way but we still didn't arrive until 7pm. Decided to stay in Buandik Camping Ground on the western side of the Grampians, down a 10km dirt track. It was empty and perfect for the night, and it'll probably be free to boot.
A few friendly local animals came to join us around our gas stove for dinner. A cheeky kookaburra came and stole some orange from our table and wasn't at all scared of me taking a photo. See the awesome picture above! Skippy came and sat next to us and watched us eat. They may look cute but they are apparently really vicious when they fight and try to disembowel each other with their razor sharp nails! Nice thought....
