We took in a loop along the Esplanade to Luna Park, a fun fair with a huge clown as the entrance, before strolling along Ackland St. Ackland street was full of expensive coffee shops and bakeries before wandering back along Barkly St to the hostel. It only took an hour but I saw pretty much all St Kilda had to offer.
I think the best way to describe St Kilda is like a crappy sea side resort in England. Sort of like Weymouth or Great Yarmouth but instead of fish and chip shops it has up market restaurants and a lively nightlife scene. Still has all the other things that you would expect in a sea side town though.
As the kitchen in the hostel is being renovated they have a free barbecue on the roof everyday at 1pm. Seeing as it was 1:30 I thought I'd see if anything was left and was just in time for them to start dishing up. As I expected it was a slice of bread and a couple of chipolata sausages. Not the most filling meal I've ever had but who cares, it was free.
After lunch we were kicked out of the lounge room so headed out to Albert Park to make the most of the good weather. Spent ages walking along the Grand Prix track, along the start/pit lane and ended up on a bench overlooking the lake reading for a few hours.
In the evening we headed to the cinema round the corner from our hostel to see the movie Jarhead. It was a great movie, although very similar to Full Metal Jacket, but I would fully recommend it to everyone.
