Planned to do a little loop around the town taking in the major sights so set off to see the maritime museum. Sailing history doesn't really interest me but the museum is on a replica pirate ship style boat which was brilliant. It was actually quite interesting reading about Melakas' history and well worth the tiny entrance fee.
Walked round to the colonial area of town and loved it. The whole town seems to be painted in red and the old buildings looked great. It reminded me of Macau so I liked the town instantly.
Decided not to go in the buildings but sat around the centre for a while people watching. There were loads of colourful rickshaws circling the area and it was like a carnival area. I had loved my time in Malaysia and Melaka felt like the perfect leaving present. I hardly did anything when I was there but it still ranks as one of the nicest places I have been.
As I was taking a photo of the fountain in the centre, a nice bee decided to sting my neck so I guess it was time to move on.
As I had spent all morning walking around I decided to enjoy myself for the rest of the day, forget about the budget. So it was off for coffee followed by a few plates of sushi (RM25-£3.50), a few relaxing hours on the roof terrace in the boiling heat reading a book, some Internet catchup and bowling in the evening.
Malaysia had been brilliant and I'm so glad I got to see it having never originally planned to. I'd love to see a bit more of the country someday. Instead we were off to Singapore tomorrow and I wasn't really that excited by the prospect. I've only heard bad things but it can't be as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I guess I'll see tomorrow...
