Off to Borneo

Allowed myself a bit of a lie in today before getting packed and checking out. Got the hostel owner to arrange a taxi for later and jumped on a train to KLCC (again!). This time we were actually going to go up the towers, so we got a few tickets and went for some breakfast whilst we waited our turn. Decided extra hot Nando's was the best choice for breakfast and my God was it hot! Bloody good though.
Saw a familiar face wandering through the mall with his backpacks. Dave had just arrived from Dubai (still without a hair cut) and it was great to see him again. Quickly made our way to the tower entrance and waited until we could go up. Had to sit around watching a movie on the buildings construction a few times before finally being allowed to go up. You can only go up to the skybridge which is a bit annoying but still pretty cool and offered good views or the city.
Seeing as Dave had all his bags with him we headed back to the hostel and used the net for a while. Our taxi turned up and the 4 of us (minus Julia) jumped in and sped off to the airport.
We were flying to Kota Kinabalu in Borneo! First flight in a while and quite a bargain on Air Asia. I had phoned Dave in the Cameron Highlands whilst booking the tickets to ask his date of birth only to find out it was his birthday! Oops....
The plane was packed, and had quite luxurious leather seats and some lovely stewardesses, and the 3 hours passed in no time. It was dark when we landed and still had to get into town and find a hostel for the night. We settled on Planet Backpackers which had cheapo dorms and she moved us into an air con dorm at no expense! Just as well as it was boiling! The reason we had flown all this way was to climb Mount Kinabalu! At 4100 metres it is half the height of Mt Everest so should be a challenge. The owner of the hostel tried to sell us a tour to the mountain at a stupidly high price so we turned it down before heading out for some dinner.
There was a party atmosphere in the air with Chinese New Year celebrations in full swing. The celebrations basically involved karaoke in the middle of the town but it was still fun to watch. Found another little Indian place for dinner, but it wasn't the best, before stocking up on supplies, water and chocolate, for the climb and hitting a bar in town. Still not drinking so we let Dave do all the drinking, he thought it was cheap after Dubai, and enjoyed some more karaoke before heading to the room at 1am to pack and get ready for tomorrow.
