Taman Negara had been fantastic but KL was calling and I was looking forward to reaching another big city and in particular to seeing the Petronas Towers. So we avoided the rip off pre arranged tour bus and boarded the 7am local bus that no one wants to tell you about back to Jerantut. I say we but I mean Lars and I. The girls were being lazy and decided to get a later bus. We wanted to get to KL in good time as we only had a couple of days there.

The bus was half full of other like thinking backpackers keen to avoid a scam and the bus ride was quite a laugh. Arrived in Jerantut and avoided the taxi drivers in favour of the cheapo local bus. Travelling the way it should be done!

Arrived in KL a couple of hours later and the girls had bloody beaten us there! They cheated and took a taxi though so I think we did better. We had chosen our hostel on the bus and got the train tickets so went off in different directions to our respective hostels.

We were staying in Chinatown and seeing as Chinese New Year was only a few days away it didn't seem like they were even getting ready. In Penang they were going all out and a few streets were already closed when we were there. Hit a tiny Chinese restaurant for some great noodle soup before checking out the sights. Opposite JL Petaling street (full of dodgy copied everything the way it is in China) was a strangely named S 'n' M department store and even stranger Kenny Rogers Chicken before we found Starbucks and got stuck in. Missed the coffee's the last few days. Tried one in Taman Negara and got some terrible sweet mess so this was much better.

Chilled in the hostel for a while catching up on net access and sorting out some new tunes for my mp3 player. Questionable legality or not, is brilliant!

In the evening we decided to pay a visit to the Petronas Towers so we took a train to KLCC. Had said we wouldn't go until Dave arrived but it was too great an urge to refuse!

The Petronas Towers are incredible! A true construction masterpiece. Seeing it lit up at night for the first time was awe inspiring. It's so mesmerizing that you can't take your eyes off it and no amount of photos can do it justice. Inside was like being transported back to Taipei 101. It was almost identical. 5 floors of every designer shop you could imagine.

I had wanted to visit the cinema but it was unbelievably packed so settled on a superb bookshop and walked away with 2 new LP Shoestring guides to add to the collection. I was a happy bunny indeed! For dinner I introduced Lars to the most surprising franchise chain I spotted in KL, Nando's. It was so good and very cheap by Malaysian standards so I was doubly happy.

Trained it back to the hostel and went to the Reggae bar next door for a coke. They had wrestling on the TV and it was nothing but glorified porn and was hilarious! Don't think there was any wrestling at all. The days of Hacksaw Jim Duggun, Legion of Doom and Ultimate Warrior are long gone it seems?
