This was the bus ride from hell. From here on out all overnight buses will be judged against this. Sure the bus was pretty much luxury but it had the most uncomfortable seats I've ever tried to sleep in, there was a stupid foot rest thing that protruded when you reclined the seat, the overhead compartment was useless so everyone had to keep their belongings by their feet thus further limiting the leg room. There was literally no way of sitting that would allow you to sleep! I have never been so uncomfortable and I thanked my lucky stars when the bus pulled into Khao San road at 5am, an hour early!

The original plan had been to get straight on a bus to Kanchanaburi. No chance in hell! I needed sleep and quickly. 18 hours of constant travelling was enough for one day.

Straight round to my usual haunts but they were full so I ended up the Sawsadee Smile Inn at 300/night, double what I was paying for the shack but I didn't care. Had ESPN but that was of little use to me at 5am. Collapsed on the bed and started to drift off to sleep, trying to block out the noise from the "noisy neighbours" through the paper thin walls.

Woke up at 12 and had work to do. First job was to get breakfast. When I was last here a Subway restaurant literally appeared over night. I'm not kidding, one day it wasn't there but it was the next morning. Thought I would try it out and have a bit of a splurge, and change from Pat Thai. Was OK but nothing I couldn't have got for half the price on Khao San.

Took a stroll to the bus stop and saw my bus leaving. About to jump into a taxi but saw another #47 appear straight away! 6 instead of 100 odd. Got off at Silom station and tried to negotiate my way to the Bangkok Immigration Office. Got hopelessly lost and normally you can't trust a word uttered from a Tuk-tuk drivers mouth, but this time I believed him. They normally tell you wherever you want to visit is closed and try to take you elsewhere which is why I tend to avoid them at all costs.

Anyway when I arrived at the Immigration Office it was closed as he had said but at least I knew where it was so I could easily negotiate my way there next time I was in Bangkok. I need to increase my visa for a few days and I'd rather pay at an immigration office than have to undertake the arduous task of a visa run to Burnma. If I visit Myanmar I want it to be for a few weeks, not 10 minutes and back on the bus.

Started making my way back and nipped into Starbucks for an iced coffee. It was scorching outside so another splurge was on the cards. Decided I would take a trip on the futuristic skytrain back to MBK. Figured it was at Siam Square so paid for the ticket and jumped aboard. Really good way to get around town and offers great views over the city. Would never have guessed there was a golf course in the middle of the city if I hadn't taken it.

Got off at Siam Square and started walking towards MBK. I had assumed Siam Square was the end of the line and I knew MBK was there so wondered why I couldn't see it. For some reason the MBK stop is called National Stadium, although I couldn't see a stadium anywhere.

Wandered round MGK again!, and wanted to check out the price of Sony Vaio's and PSP's. 9800 for a version 1.5 PSP and they sold hundreds of copied games to play on it. Struggled to turn it down but walked away and checked the cinema, nothing decent on.

Jumped back on the bus and went to a travel agent in Khao San and booked a ticket to Kanchanaburi for tomorrow morning. Went back to my favourite net cafe and spent 4 hours doing some much needed photo uploading. 4 hours for the same price as 45 minutes on Koh Pha Ngan!

Scoffed some Pat Thai on the way to watch a movie. They were showing the same film as the bus last night so I decided to head back to the hotel early. Switched on ESPN and there was Premier League footie on! How did I not know that! So I ended up watching it until it finished before trying to sleep. Some cheeky mosquito even bit my shoulder as I looked at it!

Trying to sleep was the correct word. My sleep patterns have been so erratic the last few days that it was impossible! Including tonight my last 6 nights have been 5am, 7am, 10:30pm, 3am, 5am and 3am! Talk about a lack of consistency!
