Didn't really have to get up that early today but had to pack my bag and things before the cooking course. Checked out and stashed my bag in Julia's room before we went cooking. Julia and Rebecca were also doing the cooking course whilst Thomas and Andrew chose the softer option and went bungee jumping.

We were picked up and bundled into a tuk-tuk and carted off to our first stop, a local market. Well we first stopped in the car park to choose what we wanted to cook. Red curry, chicken and cashew nuts in oyster sauce, papaya salad, noodle soup, pat thai and chicken satays, and best of all I got to eat all of it! Having not cooked anything for a long time it was quite a novelty and I was actually looking forward to it.

Spent about 30 minutes going round the market gathering all the ingredients we were going to need, no MSG surprisingly! Back in the tuk-tuk and off to school.

Donned our aprons and got straight on with making the curry paste, pestle and mortar style! My red curry paste was almost entirely chilli! No one else got anywhere near the whole handful I did and it took ages to grind it all up. Got cracking with making the red curry and I was surprised at how easy and how little time it took to make. It looked delicious and I wanted to take a sip but had to get straight on with the next dish. Evidently we were going to eat them when they were cold!

Chicken with cashews was apparently a hard one but it was simple. The only hard part was having to cook stuff and then tip it onto a tiny plate out of the wok. It looked and smelt really good, I was impressed.

Made the papaya salad and pork glass noodle soup before finally getting down to the good part and eating! My curry and salad were so damn hot! I had sweat and tears streaming down my face. I had been complaining that the food in Thailand wasn't spicy enough but who would have thought the hottest dish I would eat in the country would be made with my own hands? Anyway it was all really good and I was stuffed but still had 2 more dishes to make.

Pat Thai was incredibly simple but had to be made. I lived on the stuff in Bangkok because it was so damn cheap, quick and tasty. Julia somehow managed to completely incinerate her pat Thai, which I found hilarious even if she didn't, but managed to redeem herself with the deep fried bananas she made after. They were pretty tasty and that's coming from a guy who doesn't like bananas! Although I seem to be eating them everyday for some reason.....

The satays were lame and I wish I had done the spring rolls instead, but they looked like too much effort. It was a thoroughly good day and although it was a splurge at 10 it was well worth it. Sat around waiting for the bus to arrive before saying goodbye to everyone and getting on the bus to Bangkok. I had enjoyed travelling with Julia for the past week and hopefully we'll be meeting up again in a couple of weeks time to hit Malaysia. Considering that I wasn't even originally going to visit Malaysia at all, I now think it looks far more interesting than Thailand. My time in Thailand from here is nothing but beach hopping and I know I'll get bored sitting around doing nothing.

Bus sat around doing nothing in the car park before finally pulling away. 2 Fast 2 Furious on the TV, terrible movie but better than nothing I guess...
