We were nearly at Chiang Mai when at 5:30 we stopped again only 10 minutes from the town! Getting back on board the bus I was met with the foul smell of people who have been sleeping on a bus for 12 hours. Neausiating, trust me!
We were thrown into pickups and driven straight to a hotel. The guide, who I was pretty sure may once have been a man, was very enthusiastic and the sound of free coffee was very enticing. Sure enough the hard sell started and within 10 minutes all 20 of us were booked on hill tribe treks over the next few days. Gotta hand it to her, she was very good at her job! Most people would have been planning to go trekking anyway and it saved me the hassle of having to look elsewhere. Getting lazy....
Decided against staying at the hotel and proceeded to walk around loads of hotels and settled on their sister hotel, Nice Place 2. It was a nice place with big rooms and the bonus draw point of a swimming pool so I was sold! Plus I was knackered and didn't think my legs could carry me to any more places.
Crashed straight into bed and slept like a baby for hours. I managed to get a little sleep on the bus but you can never sleep properly. Spent the rest of the day going from one tour office to another. It seems Julia wants to do every course on offer and I think we visited every place in Chiang Mai to find out the prices, which all happened to be the same. I reckon I'll be doing the cookery course but Thai boxing, bungee jumping and massage aren't really my thing. I'd also be flying home far earlier than I expected because I'd be broke if i did them all!
