Today we were booked on the Perfume River tour. There are loads of tombs and temples scattered around the Hue area but this trip combines them all together, plus lunch for only $2! A bargain if ever I saw one!

So after some breakfast we followed the little girl to the boat, joking that she was our guide and it turns out she was! She said she was 16 but looked no older than 11! The boat was really small and there were only about 10 of us onboard.

The second we left the dock the hard selling began. Piles of useless crap and terrible pictures were paraded before us on the floor. We made it clear that we wouldn't be buying anything on this trip and settled back to admire the cloudy, grey, raining skies and the obscured views.

There was an elderly American couple onboard our boat, travelling with their poor daughter who looked incredibly frustrated with the whole experience. Anyway they proceeded to buy anything and everything that was on offer! Plus they paid stupid amounts for everything. I mean to pay $6 for 1 crappy flower pattern picture that looked like a 2 year old had made it, and would have cost only a couple of cents to make was ridiculous and I had to go stand outside and take some pictures to avoid laughing in their faces! The kids selling the crap had hit the jackpot and you could see how surprised they looked. By the end of the trip they had bought about 10 pictures, a pair of shorts, kimono and pyjamas and spent close to $60!

Back to the boat trip. We stopped at a number of tombs and temples along the way but you didn't have to visit them all. They were so expensive that we only ended up visiting 1, Minh Mang. At the first tomb, Tu Duc, you had to take a motorbike ride before you even arrived at the tomb. We weren't told about this so we told them where to go and sat around chatting to an English couple whilst having a beer. Once back on the boat the American woman seemed amazed that we had a beer before we realised it was only 9:30am....Whoops, still on Laos time!

The tour was a bit of a waste of time really seeing as we only visited the one tomb. Thankfully it was the most elaborate with some cool statues and temples but the entrance to the tomb area was of course locked. It also rained all day but my trusty umbrella was still holding out.
