Shigatse is just another big town but its nice enough to amble around for a day or 2. The old fort was torn down by the Chinese so there isn't really anything of interest. Seeing as we had an entire day there we thought we may as well have a look around to see what was on offer.
The Jeep has a CD player but it lacks anti-shock memory so it skips all the time, especially on Tibetan roads. The driver also only has 1 cd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, which seems to be a mixed bag of songs from random albums. Either way we were getting very tired of the same song so went looking for some speakers for our mp3 players. Sadly although there were loads of electrical stores everywhere, all selling massive HDTV's that no doubt the locals could never afford, we couldn't find any speakers powerful enough to be heard over the engine.
Defeated we had a wander round the markets. Every stall sold exactly the same items and all the staff shouted "Lookie, Lookie!!" when we walked passed which we found funny. Jesper came very close to buying a megaphone so that he could walk around shouting lookie, lookie at everyone!
Other than that nothing much of interest really happened. The only other item worth noting was when trying to order some lunch we ended up in the kitchen making animal noises to help them understand what we wanted. We ended up with a plate of fried rice with egg and chilli.....
