Got up early to a nice sunny day. Made some pancakes and met a few girls studying Spanish for a few months. Lyn and I headed out to Panama Viejo to see the ruins from the mid 1500's. There was a rebuilt tower that gave a nice view of the 'modern'part of town where all the highrises meet the water. We strolled around the tourist shops in the area and grabbed a cab to the Mirasflores Locks of the Panama Canal. It was pretty busy due to the annual canoe race that passes through the canal. The observastion desk was packed so we headed to the theater and caught the English version of a short film on the building of the canal. By then the crowd had shifted as the locks pushed the participants along. We watched the little train engines pull a couple larger frieghters through with what looked like just a couple of feet on each side. We grabbed a couple of empanadas and some drink called "Malta Vigor" and headed back to Calle Central Espana. Did some more shopping and priced things at the grocery store and returned to our hostel for a couple of drinks.
