As soon as we arrived I hopped on the phone, my mom answered by saying "Merry Christmas", while everyone was lining up at the phone to say hello. It was wonderful getting to talk to almost my entire family. Only missed a few family members, because they were not at my grandparents yet. Even though we are all the way on the other side of the world it was wonderful to at least talk to family on Christmas.
Following our phone call we gave Frank and Joyce a Christmas gift. After all of the research we have done, we were able to take a picture of the official record of the marriage of Franks parents in Fiumefreddo. We blew up the picture to actual size (huge) and framed it for Frank. It took almost a year of research at home, but we finally got it on this last trip to Sicily. They were very happy to receive the documents, but told us they sort of thought we were going to give that to them for Christmas. It was time for a light breakfast, very Italian like croissants (cornettos), ham and cheese, just perfect and very tasty. We have been waiting a long time to have some cooked ham and couldn't wait for Christmas Day, since that is one of the traditional meats on the menu from home and we were hoping for the same in Australia. We exchanged a few more gifts and then were off to Lennie and Scott's house for lunch.
When we arrived the gifts were all opened from Santa by Jacob and Jacinta and they were having a ball with all of there new stuff. Jacinta was dancing around to some new music she got and was listen to it on her new stereo. Jacob was watching a movie. But soon Aunt Sabrina gave them gifts and then the kids were all over Uncle Ray to play with them. Jacob received a new Star Wars light saber, which they played with. Then once Uncle Ray was knocked down, Jacinta thought it was pretty fun that Uncle Ray was a couch. They all had a great time and it reminded me of all the fun we have getting games from Santa as well and playing with my little cousin Seth and all his new toys.
Scott and Lennie gave us a little gift as well. Scott invented a hook threader for fishing. It's pretty cool and helpful if you do not have a steady hand. It's easy to use in both day and night. I definitely know it will be an addition to my grandfather tackle box. Check out the Magnifeye Hook Threader on the Internet at: www.hookthreader.com
Soon we were eating lunch, so much good food, we couldn't eat it all. And wonderful ice cream. We haven't eaten this much ice cream since Italy. We will be packing the pounds on again. After a nice visit, playing with the kids and talking with Lennie and Scott, we were off to Nadia and Lukes for dinner. Not that we needed anymore food, but she was having a little gathering as well. But we arrived a little late, not a problem plenty of food to go around. The girls were sitting on the couch watching the 20th anniversary of Oprah DVD, and at that moment one of the topics was missing a loved one that died. I needed to walk away. I must say I have done pretty good this holiday season, probably because I wasn't home, this time it just got to me. I needed to go have a little cry and after that I was fine. We soon were playing board game Scattergories and Simpson's Monopoly. We had a great time, came down to the wire after a few hours, Luke put all hotels or monorails on his property that we all lost to him. We had a great time playing games, and reminded me of Friday night at home when we would get together to play Monopoly. What wonderful memories are created when you are a child and they travel with you no matter where you go.
Time to go to bed for me around 10:30PM. Bart stayed up later, as usual.
Merry Christmas to all of our loved ones and friends we couldn't be with this year!!!!
