Boat trip arround Koh Phangang
Jul 30, 2006
Decided to take a boat trip around the island today. We got up and walked to 'Chicken Corner'. We noticed how windy it was on the East side of the island, but paid no mind as we were leaving from the west side. As soon as we got on the Captain notified us that there was a change in the itinerary due to the wind and rough water on the east side. WE headed north to Ao Mae Haad or Haad Salad where a truck picked us up and drove us to a stream. After a 5 minute walk we ended up at a beautiful waterfall in the middle of nowhere. We all waded in and enjoyed the cool fresh water. Afterwards we went to the island of Koh Maa. The island is about 200 yards off the coast and during low tide you can walk to the island via a land bridge. (very interesting). It was a bit windy on the north side and there was even a kite boarder surfing around. Later it was back on the boat and off to Koh Tae Nai for some snorkeling. I would say it was about sa total bust as far as seeing fish. I did find an interesting shellfish though. WE soon headed back to the port and agreed to meet an hour later for dinner. Dinner was tasty but a little low key. The people who won beers on the trip had to settle for a soda as Dec 5th is the Kings birthday and no alcohol is supposed to be served. (Although we saw plenty elsewhere).
