Happy Thanksgiving!!! (Koh Sumet to Bangkok)

Bart was up nice and early to watch the sunrise over the beautiful beach of Koh Sumet, while I slept in. After checking the Internet of the goings on of our families, we packed our bags and are heading back to Bangkok. We were told we need to walk a few blocks to the Taxi station to take us to the port, but lucky for us as we were walking down the steps we waved one down. Thank god, because it was muggy and about 80 degrees already and our bags are so huge and heavy. Once we arrived at the port we picked up some tradition American food at the 7/11 (Hotdogs), on Thanksgiving. The hot dogs were perfect for us, because we need to be on the boat in 10 minutes to make the 1PM departure ad they were only 25 Baht. I almost crapped my pants when we had to slide under a concrete beam, then cross over 3 boats to get to ours and these boats were not close together! If you could just imagine me freaking out right now, afraid I would fall in with a 40 pound pack with all of our camera gear. Finally the guys came over and helped us half way. Thank god Bart isn't afraid, he lugged the bags over the next two boats. To our surprise, we were traveling on the 'Happy Tour Boat' and would have like to help ourselves to a drink, but felt it wasn't worth it to take a drink that is only worth 80 cents. The boat ride was beautiful, the water was a calm crystal blue and you could see the beach coastlines where ever you looked.
As we arrived at the mainland in Ban Phe, we where approach by everyone trying to help us get to Bangkok or wherever we would like to go. At first we thought we would head straight to Cambodia, but were hit with a 2,500 BHT price tag we said no thank you. We felt we were better off the get on the A/C Bus back to Bangkok and do a little more searching on our own. After about 10 minutes on the road, we realized it wasn't getting any cooler, 12 people packing in a mini van. I couldn't wait to get to the rest stop. When we finally arrived, Bart touched my back and I was soaked. It was nice to be out of the van and in some fresh air. We looked around purchased a Pepsi and peanuts covered in honey and sesame seeds, they were good and hit the spot. We talked about our plans the clouds rolled in and it started to thunder and pour, at that moment we looked at the van and there were are bags right on top. All we said was we hope it stops raining and they dry before we arrive in Bangkok. We were back in the van, this guy was all over the road and driving fast, we thought for sure we would make it to Bangkok in 2 hours. That didn't happen, we dropped a couple off at the other end of town and then we were stuck in rush hour traffic. We were able to see more of the city that we didn't see before, which was nice but the no A/C and time was really getting to us.
Finally we arrived at Kao San Road and headed back to our hotel. Siam Oriental Inn is one of the biggest hotels on the street with decent rooms, you have a choice of A/C or fan, hot or cold shower, room with a view, TV and breakfast. All different rates ranging from 280BHT to 790BHT. We decide to stick to the usually, hot shower and A/C which were well needed. But they only has two single beds left, which we were fine with. As soon as we arrived in the room the A/C wasn't cold enough, so I went down to the front desk and the gentlemen was very nice and came up with me to look at it, but could only say he doesn't know where the control is and relax and take a shower, then come down to pay. By that time he knew I was getting upset, I told him about our bus ride and all we wanted was some A/C. Next thing you know he brings up some fresh towels and I was off to take a shower, wouldn't you know it was a cold shower room. Didn't really matter to me, because at that point I needed a cool shower. After Bart took one, I was down to the front desk again telling him it was a cold shower room and that the price should be 60BHT less, he told me no and would be up to the room to show us how to work the shower. But of course when he arrived, he couldn't figure it out either and told me he would lower our price.
We decide to go out for some food a few blocks away. We found a little place set up on the sidewalk, we looked at the menu and ordered some Pad Thai and Thai Salad. Not the most traditional Thanksgiving meal, but this is not the first Thanskgiving we spent abroad. A few years ago we were in Italy and they served us pork, so I guess chicken is closer to turkey (total bill; 70 BHT -less than $2 for dinner for 2!). After dinner, we did some street browsing, hit the Internet and called our families to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving and to relay sympathy to both of our families and that they are in our thoughts and prayers.

Saim Oriental Inn- On Khoa San Road in Bangkok, great location and cheapest rates around, at least what we where looking for. Breakfast is good as well, can't find 2 breakfasts for 30BHT, which is included with your rate if you would like. You have three to choose from; #1) fried egg with ham or bacon or sausage ( which is really small hot dogs). toast with butter & jam, coffe, tea or milk. #2) green salad with dressing, toast with butter & jam, coffee, tea, or milk. #3) mixed fruit, toast with butter & jam, coffee, tea or milk.
