Hit the markets and had dinner
Jul 30, 2006
Headed out this morning to the markets. Stefano bought some calamari to cook for dinner. We stopped by the cathedral and searched a few of the touristy shops for a sicilian flag. Had a Panella sandwich for lunch (Panella is mashed chick peas that are flattened, breaded and fried -pretty tasty). Later we headed out to see a few of the seldom seen sights of Palermo. The cultural/historical society had several sites open for free on the weekends for the month of October. We went to an ancient burial preparation room that was only recently discovered. This was a sect of nuns that used to be prostitutes We also went to an old jail from ????. They have found ancient sketches on the walls and cieling behind the plaster and are painstaking uncovering the detail.
