ell here we go... Heading into the somewhat unknown... we were a bit nervous and did not want to draw out a long good bye. After leaving our parents at the bus terminal in Wilkes-Barre on the 9:55am bus,we headed off to NYC. Arriving in Port Authority at 1:45pm we walked two blocks to Times Square, had lunch behind the NYC Library in Bryant Park where they were setting up for Fashion Week, we then hopped the subway ($2 each) to JFK Airport (another $5 each for the Airtrain to the terminal). Security was tight between NYC and London. We had to pass through 5 security checkpoints! Including a random one as we were boarding the plane. Good job TSA. Departing at 6:00 PM we had a 6 hour flight ahead of us. Since the UK is on GMT (+6 hour time difference) this meant we would arrive as the sun rose over England around 6:00 AM. We had intended on getting some sleep during the flight to minimize the jet lag but Virgin Atlantic provides a personal 10" television screen mounted in the headrest in front of you which has; video on demand w/50 movies, (pause, ffwd, etc) a CD jukebox w/a library of 120 CDs, video games, e-mail (you can even e-mail people on the plane by using their seat # as the address
! It is pretty cool. Not to mention the food and wine they provide (first rate)! And to top it off (or as they say here in Britain... top up) There is a goody bag waiting in your seat when you board. A handy little see through bag (kinda like the pencil bags you used to buy at the beginning of the school year w/the pens, pencils and erasers inside), except these had; a toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs, sleeping mask and a few other neat things. Virgin Atlantic is definitely the best way to go.
