We headed to Europcar to pickup our car and kick off the first of our week long road trip.  We ordered a Toyota Yaris (small car), knowing that the streets in France and Italy are narrow and parking along the streets is very tight.  Europcar offered us an upgrade to a sedan, which we declined and we ended up with what I think, is an Italian branded car, Lancia.  Excited to have a car to have freedom to roam the French Riviera, we were equally nervous to drive.

The left hand side drive experience was new to us, so we were very careful.  Armed with our TomTom navigator, we punched in our first destination, Cannes, managed to get out of Nice city and made it to the freeway unscathed.  The drive along the freeway was great; both ways there are three lanes and all we needed to do was follow the instructions from the TomTom.

After a forty minute drive we arrived into Cannes and parked the car close to the beach Cannes Beach
Cannes Beach
.  The first thing we noticed on the beach was sand, no more sore back and arse.  Like Nice, beaches are sectioned off for hotel guests, so we settled at a free beach, Plages du Midi and chilled on the beach for an hour or so then went for a walk.  Cannes is a lot quieter the Nice, didn't see as many restaurants etc and it wasn't as busy in terms of the number of tourists.

Next stop, Saint Tropez, another two hours on the road.  Saint Tropez is an upscale, chic fishing port!  Everywhere we looked we saw Ferraris, Porches, and a couple a Lamborghinis..... Beamers and Mercs were the standard cars.  We had dinner a bar, which wasn't over priced at all, Belinda and I had a pizza each.  After dinner we tried to walk off the pizza and saw what Saint Tropez was all about, the luxury yacht packed port.

The drive back to Nice on the freeway was pretty challenging, freeways are not well lit, I often found myself driving the car straight, hitting a pitch black spot at 100km/h, then quickly realising there was a bend coming up.  I relied a lot on the TomTom to know the road pattern and anticipate what was coming because of the lack of visibility.
