The San Sebastian leg of the trip was placed to ensure we'd get over the jet lag and be used as a "pick me up" for the rest of the trip, knowing the rest of the trip would be so hectic.  Belinda and I arrived into San Sebastian on plane I call a "Buddy Holy" (small regional plane).

It was only a small plane with a seating configuration of 12 or so rows with 4 seats, but plenty of leg room.  The flight was only going to be an hour trip, so we weren't expecting any food, however we had morning tea served (mmmm donuts).

A short 20 minute bus trip from San Sebastian airport to the city centre only cost two euros.  We hopped off the bus followed our map and found our hostel, Pension Amare.  Belinda and I have never stayed in a guest house and weren't sure what to expect, but after meeting Paulo (the bloke who runs the joint) and seeing the place, Belinda and I felt right at home....the hostel was great very clean with comfortable bed (definitely recommend it) Our "Buddy Holly" Plane

Again, we dropped our bags and headed off and figured we'd be able to see what we needed/wanted so see in one day, so we could spend the rest of our time in San Sebastian on the beach, eating, drinking and chilling.

We went for a walk along the San Sebastian coast line (around 6km), where there are three beaches, Playa de Ondarreta (apparently where the wealthy people hang out), Playa da La Concha (family, teens) and Playa de La Zurriola (the rest of the population and nudists).  The San Sebastian coast line is shaped like a like a shell with a backdrop of the old San Sebastian and new.

After finishing the walk along the beaches, we then went for a walk up Monte Urgill (a park/mountain top), for a view which overlooks San Sebastian.  On top of the mountain is a Jesus statue looking over San Sebastian (sorry Ray, you where right about the Jesus statue in Spain) and a castle, Casco Viejo.

The following two days we spent on the beach, eating and drinking at Tapas Bars.    Tapas Bars (in San Sebastian, they were called Pintxos) where everywhere (San Sebastian isn't a big place).  Each street had a least three Tapas bars, all of them packed out, and what everyone seemed to do, including Belinda and I was just bar hop, try different beers, wines and tapas.  I'm not sure why tapas wouldn't work at home..... drink and eat great food while you're on your way to getting blind.

San Sebastian was a charming place; it had beautiful beaches, boutique stores and easy going people.  The tapas bars where a great experience in San Sebastian, it was a good way to get amongst the locals (even though I could hardly speak a work of Spanish).
