After another hellish flight we finally met up with Bernd and George in Sao Luis. Bernd needed to meet up with another student so he stayed at the airport while the Dan, George and I took a taxi to the house.  The taxi ride was almost like a video game. The driver weaved between everyone else and didnīt seem to stop at any of the stop lights. Stop lights are respected less here then anywhere else I have traveled to. I guess they are just polite suggestions.

The house that we are staying in is absolutely amazing. It is an enormous colonial house. All of the rooms surround a main courtyard that has a swimming pool. I will post pictures later so that everyone can get a feel for what I am talking about.

We immediately started walking arround the town. Sao Luis is such an impressive city. All of the colonial houses have so much character to them. It is very similar to Antigua in Guatemala, but perhaps more interesting due to the lack of renovation. Tourism doesnīt seem to be very big here, at least not as much as in Antigua. I also feel very safe here.

After taking a nap we went back to check out the city at night. The festivals of Bumba Meu Boi have started. The night was filled with loud music and people dancing. Different dance troops came to compete. Everyone was elaborately decorated in feathers and ribbons. We ended up staying out very late just to watch everything. Brazilians know how to party. This should go on for the entire week. I canīt wait to experience it all.
