Only two days Down Under in sydney. Only 5 minutes left on my internet account so here goes...
Did all the cliched things, went to the bridge and the opera house, got the necessary photos and went for a long walk around the harbour and bottanical gardens. Saw screaming cockatoos and parrots in the trees everywhere, like pigeons back home without the flying-rat like quality.
The city itself is very nice, very cosmo, very much like London but with stinking hot weather! It is a mix of turn of the century old world architecture and 21 century glass and towers. We stayed in Kings Cross, the livelier part, full of clubs, strip bars and all types of entertainment (that sounds bad - it was). Apparently ten years ago the biker gangs ruled here, and you drove through quickly with your windows up and your doors locked - pretty much like KX back home. No more, money rushes in and the uber-cool have claimed it as their own. Nearly everyone is young, tanned and fit. Ugly people dont exist here!
The city centre itself is a curious mix of New York and London, it seemed like a very cool place. Strangely it had two unnatractive qualities: lots of winos and eveything shuts down at 6pm!
Other than that it has pricked my interest about Oz, Ill be back...
South America here we come...
