After spending 16 hours on the sleeper train from Hanoi we arrived in Hoi An.  This was via Danang, what seemed on very short viewing to be best described as god awful, known primarily as the place the Americans landed in the War.

It seems that the weather has changed somewhat, from the hot steamy Hanoi sun to constant heavy rain.  Some form of typhoon has swept along the Vietnam coast and Hoi An is under water.  as I right this I am sitting in an internet cafe next to the river.  The banks broke a long time ago, the river is flooded and the pavements are like underwater walkways.  Everyone walks around in full body ponchos puddle jumping.  This is rain unlike what we see at home, think of Forrest Gump when he told mumma about the downwards, sidewards and upwards and you get some idea.

Despite the rain we're not being holed up in our sub-sub standard hotel (the lock on the bathroom is a piece of bamboo and the mosquito nets come with free mosquitoes).  This town is really quite something, its old and still looks like it would of 150 years ago.  Its known for its beach and its tailor shops.  The beach is out of action, which meant me and Raz spent the afternoon in the tailors getting suited up.

We are going to spend tomorrow here (massive thanks to the mother for the rainproof coat!) have a couple more fittings to get the suits right, then hop along further south.  We had intended to go to Tranang but its a beach resort suffering the same sort of weather so we may take a raincheck.  If not, its straight on to Saigon.

Onwards and upwards, hoods pulled down...
