Right here we go....
We had originally planned to start off in Goa, India for a week of relaxing to get ourselves ready for what lies ahead. Booked our flights, booked our acommodation, booked a date. Turns out it wasn't to be. Who knew going to India could be so hard? With a Pakistani passport, turns out it is. After a month and a half of various horseplay with the Indian embassy, Raz failed to get a visa, which means we aint goin to India. Which means we aint goin to Pakistan. Which means we aint goin to Nepal. Good start....
We've snapped into action like a wounded gazelle, dashed down to the homely, quiet little Vietnamese embassy and got ourselves a visa to the Socialist Republic double quick time. Turns out they don't have the same aversion to those of a certain persuasion entering there country.
Using this breakneck speed momentum, we've changed the flights and now fly into Hanoi (via a short stop-off in Bangkok). The itinery now looks something like this:
12/11/2008 Hanoi
Overland through Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia to Bali
18/02/2008 Sydney (short stop off for a couple of days)
21/02/2008 Rio de Janeiro (via Buenos Aires)
Overland through Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru
30/04/2008 Return to the UK of the Prodigal Son
30/06/2008 Return to the UK of the other one (if UK immigration allow him back in)
At the moment, rough estimates put Christmas in Thailand and New Year in Malaysia, given our talent for organisation, and Raza's specific talent for time-keeping, I wouldn't bank on it...
If anybody is anywhere near any of these countries at the time, let us know. We'll pack up our stuff and hightail it out of there quick as a flash...
Last minute packing to finish, and a bed to find in Hanoi....
