May 10

We're back tonight, coming to you from Oconomowoc. We got in last night from Minneapolis after I flew in from Maui. Carolyn and Connie had a great time in my absence, spent a little time at the fabled Mall of America and dined at the trendy restaurant, Crave, on "adult Mac and cheese." Meanwhile, I was on the redeye from Kahului. I did get to have dinner at our favorite Maui restaurant – Hailiimaile General Store – and brought Carolyn their signature pineapple upside down cake for Mother’s Day.

Beautiful day all day yesterday, as we passed through the Wisconsin cranberry country. You may be surprised to learn that Wisconsin’s cranberry growers provide nearly 60 percent of the nation’s supply of cranberries. Also, cranberries are not grown in water – that’s how they’re harvested. They have air bubbles, so they float.

We got our Bernese Mountain Dog, Cash, back today after three weeks on the show circuit. He “finished” last week and now is Champion Tallpines Guilty of Arson. Tomorrow we try for his draft (carting) title for the fifth time, but we’ll have to do it in the rain in 40 degree weather after a month of no training. It won’t be pretty, but I’ll report tomorrow night.

I never knew cranberries were grown in Wisconsin. Learn something new every day. Continue to have a great time.
