Sitting at JFK waiting for the Alitalia flight to depart...first stop Milan, then Budapest, Hungary.   Seems like a whirlwind of activity during these last 2 weeks in the states.  From Iceland to Long Island for some motherly nurturing and fig eating, up to Syracuse to celebrate my sweet daughters 19th birthday, to wings and Dulce de Leche with friends in Syracuse, over to my Cape Cod family for a taste of Women's Week, on to the mega-wedding weekend celebration with Lisa's family and all it's extensions in Newport, back to Long Island for another quick dose of family, and right back to JFK.   All couldn't have been more delightful....no matter where I travel, I'm always thrilled to reconnect with my life and the people in it.

So I bring all of you to Budapest in my heart.  I look at the language spoken there and don't even begin to have a clue about pronunciations or meanings...restart the process of familiarizing with a new country and its people.  In fact on this leg of the trip there will be lots of reorienting each time we enter a new country.  I don't know how many places we'll be able to visit but our sights are set on Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, and hopefully we'll be able to fit in Greece and Turkey too.     But I have until the end of Dec for this leg which hardly seems enough.  Contacts have been made with sustainability people and with couchsurfing hosts....I feel pretty well hooked up for the start.  Of course I've already lost Lisa...it appears we booked on different flights close to the same time...so I've got to meet her in Budapest...she's getting there through Rome....nobody to fight over the window seat with for this leg.  Let's hope for a good movie...at least I have my Ipod for this leg and I'm looking forward to the surprises Corey has for me there.

It's been a long flight but I'm here....not sure if I'm cut out for those lose-a-night-of- sleep flights... but a few movies and a couple of meals later I've arrived...but without luggage...I don't know why I checked it...I think it had to do with the nail clippers and not wanting to lose them...but now, the arduous process of recovery.  Lisa and the luggage...got to find both....

Hey karen... just head iceland is over and hungary is beginning... I love travelling with you and Lisa. Looking forward to your adventures daily, or so... keep it coming.
And the language, well... I guess just talk with your hands and point to things until you get some basics...if that doesn't work, just wave the beautiful smile at people.

Safe travels. I am off to Ireland next monday... show all

Hi, Karen!
I've just spent the last hour and a half catching up on all that you've been experiencing! It is so exciting being able to 'travel' with you...the pictures are fabulous - and the narratives? Well, they just make the pictures even better...take care, thanks for sharing, say hi to Lisa for me and I look forward to reading about your trek across Eastern Europe!
All the best!

Hey Karen - sorry you lost your luggage - that STINKS! Hopefully you've found it by now.

My dad is doing GREAT - he lost weight, which is bad for him, but he's healthy and already home, and recuperating like a trooper. The doctors were shocked and pleased with how incredibly well he did with his surgery and subsequent week or two afterwards.

Not that you care, but I do, so I'll t... show all
