Crystal and Cashel
Entry 96 of 140 | show all | print this entry |
We were all ready this morning but no driver. I went to find him and he was still asleep. I grabbed the keys so we could load up the bus. When he finally arrived, we were playing silly buggers and I was sitting up in the driver's seat with my leprachuan hat on with the headset and telling everybody about the history of the hotel and the village that we were staying in (actually it was just a load of crap!). Paul was lucky, because I was just about to start the bus and drive off. Now that would have given him a scare. No bus or passengers!
Anyway, on the way to the Waterford Crystal Factory, we picked up a solo backpacker. By the look on his face, I think he was thinking shitting himself, because we were all mucking around and talking about murder etc (to freak him out). After the crystal factory, we stopped off at Kilkenny Castle and then to a pub to sample the locally brewed beer, Kilkenny.
Onto the Rock of Cashel. For 1000 years this was a symbol of power. It was a hostile fort against the church. In the 5th Century, St Patrick apparently converted the leader at the time, where he accidentally stabbed the King in the foot with his Crozier. The original St Patrick's crosses are here, protected, from erosion.
Tonight we stayed in Cork, and sampled, yet another locally brewed beer, Murphy's.
