Where I stayed
Chrissy's Parent's Apartment

Flag of Netherlands  , Utrecht,
Sunday, April 26, 2009

Arriving in town was exciting as we weren't aware that the scenic bikeway we were on doubled as the red light district as you near Utrecht. Ah, the cultural experiences! Utrecht, like Amsterdam is run by bicycles, maybe even more so. Those bike lanes during rush hour are buzzing and a car passes occasionaly at best.

With Chrissy's parents we took a walk around Utrecht and got the tour of the University where Roger is just finishing up his stay as a visiting professor. A fun college town with a beautiful town center. On sunday, we went to church in Utrecht where they have a ward with about 70 in attendance every week. They were incredibly nice an accomodating. They translated everything for us.

Take a look at all the pictures to get a feel for what we did while with the Thompsons.

They took us to a place called Keukenhof. This is an enormous tulip garden with seven million bulbs planted every year. Basically, there are flowers everywhere and you could walk all day and maybe see everything. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen.

We also went to a place called Haanse Chanse where we saw several windmills, how they make shoes and cheese etc. We also went to an automated music machine museum.

Unfortunately most of my stay here I've been ill. I had a bad fever and a headache. So if I look like I'm faking a smile in these pictures it's because I'm pretty uncomfortable. We can't decide if it's from alergies or not. I'm feeling better now though. Tomorrow we'll begin the larger biking adventure. We'll really start to move across these countries.

Fifty Miles?!?
Whoah! was it some sort of slow day for you? I rode fifty miles today just getting to and from work. Steph lost her wheel so she had to do a wheelie for fifty miles straight. it was the back wheel, so she had to do a reverse wheelie.

in other news, your house is not nearly as clean as when y'all were here.

The Rane family has put an offer on a house. it was accepted so they are puzzling over whether to accept the acceptance or counter. The house is nice - right next to the edwards and 1.7 miles away from our new digs.

looks like y'all are having fun. we miss you. write us when you start biking.
