Then we were off to Halong Bay which we had seen some fantastic pictures of. It's an area that has about 2,000 or so rock islands.   You get to these islands using a traditional wing-tip sailboat that looks kind of like a pirate ship. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't kind to us here and the government advisory didn't allow us to take a boat ride. The hotel was really nice and the food was good. Something that had happened to us a couple of times and occurred again in the hotel's restaurant was that the food was not as advertised. I wanted the duck spring rolls and asked what was in it. The waiter named off a bunch of ingredients and then said pork. God forbid duck spring rolls would have duck meat in them. I have no idea why they called them that, but they were indeed pork rolls. That happened multiple times in Vietnam - it was the weirdest thing. Although it was raining in Halong, we could still see the underlying beauty of the area. This place is definitely on our things to do list when we come back this way.
