The next stop was Hue. Leaving Danang, we had to drive over the mountains that made China Beach's oceanview so spectacular. The mountains were a scenic treat in and of themselves especially at the top where you got a bird's eye view of China Beach and all of the resorts. We also took a pretty nice boat ride down the river. The One-pillar Pagoda was really cool as well. We had a chance to walk through the Citadel and the old Imperial City which were huge. There were also a couple of Mausoleums that we visited. These mausoleums were really serene and beautifully landscaped. There were temples, rivers, and turtle-filled ponds (the turtles favorite food was popcorn and once they saw us digging it out to feed them they immediately knew what it was an raced over).
The guide also took us to a shop that made incense. The people were real nice here, not pushy, and reasonable prices. Rachel learned how to make incense. The incense "dough" looked like maneur or something but smelled pretty dang good. We ended up buying a few incense bundles just to show our gratitude. We never had a chance to use them and ended up giving them to our guide. It was a real cool experience.
