Hoi An was really nice as we crossed small villages, rice paddies, steep dips looking into the ocean, unique bridges, and other fantastic sites. Arriving in Hoi An we visited a museum, more pagodas, and the street scene where Rachel bought these mini-apples which were oh so sweet. We also visited a house that has been with a Vietnamese family for 7 generations. You got to see historic pictures of the house and the flooding that has occurred in it which is a pretty frequent occurrence. Nonetheless, the family would pack up all the belongings on the first floor which is concrete and take it to their upper floors. Later on we went to a silk factory. Here they crafted silk apparel and silk paintings. The silk paintings were really fascinating and these people were meticulous artists using silk as color palettes in their paintings. They also had a silkworm farm. We had a chance to check out how silk is made from the breeding stages of silkworms to the production of the silk by these worms (you think the Nike sweatshop workers have it bad) to the spinning of the silk. It was an enlightening experience. Very worthwhile.
