Gaarda was kind enough to invite me to see Hoobastank on Silosa Beach in Singapore. So it really was a gig on the beach!

Sentosa Island has a beach called Silosa beach, totally artifical of course but it likes to play home to up and coming bands like Hoobastank.

Now, I'm not a big fan of punk rock and nu-metal, most of that should have stayed in the 1970's 80's but here were Hoobastank, supported by the Ocean Band whom I thought were much better than Hoobastank but hey, I was there for the experience.

What was really strange was the ticketing policy. We paid SIN$71 for the cheapest tickets only to find that the stingy organisers had put up a barrier about 20 metres away from the stage where all the $71 people stood behind, crap! So myself and the crew decided to upgrade our tickets to the $91 ones which placed us about 5 metres away from the stage. How cheeky was that though by the organisers.

Even Hoobastank thought it stunk, they couldn't believe that so many fans who paid hard earned cash to see them were so far back. The big screen behind the band was poor as well, they had no hope to see them.

The Ocean Band (http://www.theoceanband.com/) played a support gig and it was really good! They call their influeces from Pink Floyd, U2 and Morison but I would have paid to see them even if Hoobastank wern't there.

Hoobastank came on late, no surprises there but sang their heart out for a good 1.5 hours. They've got this track called 'The Reason' which is like their singnature track that all the girls love and most of the ones I was there with wanted to hear that. What was nice was that Hoobastank made a point of mentioning that so many of their fans were so far back. So much so that during the last song, the lead singer just urged the fans at the back to jump the fence and many of them did! Though the first ones over got floored by the security guards, most of them made it over and made it an encore to remember!
