Whilst packing all my things away, I realised that you can discover so much about yourself that you never knew before. For example, I discovered that I'm turning into a real girl with a growing collection of bags and footwear. Although someone did tell me that it's normally handbags and high-heels that count and not backpacks and hiking boots, oh well...
So, another era in the UK over and filling every nook and cranny of the car. I still can't believe how much stuff I have this time!!! When I left York to do my RTW, I only had 2 rucksacks-worth of clothes to bring home, this time I have a bike, computer, juicer, radio, massive duvet...and 4 rucksacks-worth of clothes to bring home, not to mind all the other bits and bobs. I do excuse myself slightly on the clothes front though as last time I didn't have rowing/cycling gear to account for :-D.
I kept looking at the pile of boxes thinking there was no way it could possibly all fit and I'd have to catch the train to Holyhead with 3 bags and my bike hanging off me. Fear not, for standing beside me was the title holder of the Guinness Book of Records for maximum use of small spaces, "Me Ma", never beaten.
One word of advice for anyone contemplating the travel lifestyle, juicers don't fit that easily into backpacks! Don't be tempted by the cosy looks of a duvet or the luxury of a tv or radio whilst living the settled life. After all, what could be more cosy than sharing your sleeping bag with someone and serenading them with your own dulcet tones??? ;-). May you all bear witness to me saying that I vow I will not succumb to buying anything new when I come back unless I have done the dirty deed and bought myself a spinster-pad (doesn't quite have the same ring to it as bachelor-pad somehow :-s).
Time now for reverse mode and to unpack everything, oh what joy! I wouldn't mind except that I have to go and pack again in less than 2 weeks, although rest assured this time I won't be taking my duvet with me!
