Where I stayed
The trip from Las Vegas to Washington was pretty uncomfortable. We left Las Vegas at 11pm and arrived in Miami 5 hours later. We then had to spend 2 hours at Miami airport before catching another plane to Washington. Both planes had turbulence and so I did not sleep at all that night. As we arrived in Washington not surprisingly I had barely any energy left. Maurice's baggage was damaged when we went to collect it and then our taxi driver nearly smacked into a construction zone, so it was all going really well.
Despite the lack of energy we visited the tall Washington Monument, which is the large white monument that you may have seen in pictures, the White House and the Lincoln Memorial. The White House was not as impressive as I expected, but I guess the point is that it’s a house and not a palace
I managed to sleep well, but not due to Dad not snoring but just simply due to being so tired that I didn’t notice it.
Today we went to the Natural History Museum which presented the Evolution of Life. It was quite packed with holiday program kids and other people and we ran out of time to explore everything but it was interesting to read and see the different exhibits.
After the Natural History Museum we went to the Holocaust Museum. The Museum is well designed to appeal to Jews and non-Jews alike. It explored the history of the Nazis, the experience of Jews and the aftermath of the Holocaust to be a comprehensive illustration of the Holocaust. The Museum was also full of people who tended to be interested early on, but lose interest towards the end. The Museum also suggested that genocide continues to occur with yet the same apathy from the rest of the world (Darfur) which I thought to be a fairly good and interesting point. All in all a interesting experience at the Holocaust Museum.
In somewhat of an odd contrast we saw the movie 'Bruno’ tonight. It is funny in a disgusting kind of way. He seems to really hit the shock button at all costs. Several people walked out of the theatre in disgust. We still all enjoyed the movie.
Pictures will be added sporadically.
