Well I am glad to say I made it to LA.

It all started on Saturday afternoon when I boarded a nice pleasant flight from Melbourne to Sydney.

From there it kinda, well it did go a little downhill. Firstly, the bus took ages to get from Sydney Domestic to Sydney International, but partially because it had to stop suddenly to avoid a Boeing 777. I had a chicken focaccia (fascinating stuff) then boarded the plane only  to have another dinner 3 hours later. Now I've experience some turbulence in my time, but this was something else. They say it’s a non-stop flight, but they should really have said nonstop turbulence. By the way, as I am writing this two African Americans are looking into my window, this hotel appears to absolutely swarming full of them. You racist Tarquin! Back to the turbulence. It was so bad, at one point a person’s hot meal two rows in front of me leapt in the air and onto someones lap and the fat woman (more on that later) spilt her drink and then pretended it didn’t happen. People screaming, but sure that’s fine, all acceptable according to Virgin. As ridiculous as it sounds, you get used to the turbulence and I spent a few hours lying there in Stage 1 sleep. As to the passengers around me, I had two Americans next to me, one of which hadn’t learnt the rules of personal space and simple ideas such as you keep your arms on your side of the arm rest.  Then there was this fat woman who had to buy two seats to accommodate her enormous behind. She smelt really bad and I am pretty sure had some type of mental disability as the stewards were speaking to her in a distinct patronizing tone. Another thing I was thinking about on the airplane, why do people clap when you land? Is it because you arrived in one piece or they are just excited to be in LA. It can't be the former, as the pilots won't hear you. The same goes with the movies, I mean fair dinkum, there is no reason to clap after a movie, but people still do it. Someone explain that to me!

Arrived in LA about 15 minutes over schedule, which I suppose is a fairly good result. The LAX airport is an utter joke, reminds me of the Bangkok Departure area where it is really narrow and people are trying to give you dodgy lifts. Customs now requires that ALL visitors have their fingerprints taken and retina scanned, sophisticated equipment I must say. I couldn’t find a simcard yet so I got a taxi to Hotel. Temperature now is warm, 21 degrees and humid. I should really go and eat now, I feel like breakfast but its dinner time. Got to get into the South pattern and there it is 10pm (LA 7pm). Denny’s it is!

P.S Denny’s is a hamburger joint.

P.P.S. Yes I am negative, deal with it.

Glad you made it...

Glad you made it. Sounds like a typical rotten flight to the US. Watching the footy show, going to take Coi for a walk. How come a taxi? I thought there were hotel buses... Do you think you actually fell asleep at all?

Love Dad
