Where I stayed
McDowell Mountain Regional Park Campground
Now we are at one of our favorite places in the Sonoran Desert, McDowell Mountain Regional Park. It's just a bit north of Scottsdale, close to Fountain Hills, AZ. Thanks goes out to our friend Pete for tipping us of to this great spot.
On Tuesday, we drove in to the Condo where Lisa and the gang are staying to hang out by the pool, visit and have a fine dinner. For you foodies, it consisted of barbecued, marinated chicken, roasted veggies, kalamata olive bread and a green salad. Good Stuff! Driving back in the darkness was a bit of a challenge, but with my new lenses it worked.
Yesterday we drove to the Turf Paradise horse racing track and met up with the gang for an afternoon of entertainment. No one really won any significant purses, but we had fun. There were nice clouds and the view from the air-conditioned area was fine.
Oh, I didn't mention that each morning Lynn and I have been taking a hike from the campground on the multitudinous trails available here. We've been doing about three miles or so before it heats up. It's been in the mid-nineties and we are really enjoying it. We've seen enough snow and cold, as you can probably imagine. The cactus flowers are extremely beautiful this year, due to the good rains that the desert has received this past winter. We've seen colors that are new to us. When time permits I'll put the photos of them and the racetrack up on Flickr. It's interesting, to me, anyway, that there have been over 26,000 "looks" at photos since this whole thing started. Not good for my ego, but interesting anyway. :o)
We'll have more later after we attend the Diamondbacks-LA Dodgers game on Friday eve. We're turning into quite the social butterflies...kind of.
