Where I stayed
Mortimer Gulch Campground
Our friends Sus' and David invited us up to Gibson Reservoir for a night's rest...so to speak. Sus's daughter Becca and her two daughters, Ella and Harper came along. Need I add Murphy the dog? Of course! He's a fine beast and has mastered the fine art of not jumping up on a person. A fine art indeed!
The drive from Helena is about a hundred miles, including some road that was a challenge for Shorty, our motorhome. It gave us a chance to "shake things out." That IS a fact.
Since we've decided to keep him for awhile, we had to reload everything so we could go on this particular...or should I say peculiar expedition? All of the cabinets stayed closed on the challenging gravel road, so no complaints from this end
The lake is near the famous Bob Marshall Wilderness Area. The mountains beckoned us as we drove up there, following our faithful guide, David.
The campground at Mortimer Gulch is b e a u t i f u l! Filled with fir and aspen trees, it's the epitome of the mountains of Montana. No pine beetles here, that's for sure. The lake is down about twenty feet, but still has that special green tone that's so appealing about any body of water in the mountains.
On Sunday AM, David and a friend David 2 took their sea kayaks out on the water and saw the world from an entirely different perspective. The kids enjoyed the water, especially Ella, who is a real sea nymph. As a dedicated landlubber, it was good to see that one can actually go into the water, come out and be unharmed. That's a good thing...
We ate well, visited voluminously and had a great time.
