We returned to Abbeville and stopped at the Dubya Store and stocked up on necessities. We hit a couple of other stores in search of Chinese Cabbage for a salad for the Easter Potluck at the park. No such luck, however, so we'll bring a mixed-green salad in place.
We did luck out, however, and find the local Farmers Market in Mary Magdalene Park in downtown. Folks were mighty friendly and excited to meet someone from Montana. The all wished us good travels and such and it was good
I'd never seen so much home-canned jams and jellies and such. That's the thing about smaller towns. Folks bring what the have and eat themselves. Oh yes, Lynn picked up a quart of homemade gumbo! It contains crawdads, shrimp and crab. We're having it tonight after we get happier at the nightly "Happy Hour,"
The park itself is part of the original land bought by the priest whose statue is located there. He came to the town in 1843 and got right to work. The excess land from the church site was broken into lots and sold. That's how Abbeville started.
Just as we were leaving, a very pleasant woman, by name of Helen, I believe, stopped us and thanked us for coming by. She's a native Abbevillian and has lived her life here. A nice surprise for us. Wherever we go, folks are friendly and outgoing. They're especially impressed that we're from Montana. And, that's good too...
