Where I stayed
Crooked River State Park
What I did
The traffic was light until we got into the Jacksonville area, but tolerable, if you pay attention. I've been at Shorty's helm for over twenty-five thousand miles, so far, and it does get easier. I must say that I DO love to travel. Have I mentioned that before? We'll then, I've said it again.
We stopped shortly after we entered Georgia at a Welcoming Center. Unlike others of it's ilk, it was wide open and ready to help us out
Soon we were in Crooked River State, near the small town of St. Mary's. It appears to be a huge park and includes trails along the Crooked River and others.
On the way in, I noticed that they have a Mini-golf Course right here! After we got settled, we walked the mile or so back and got our clubs and score card. Lynn did very well, especially when she got her first "Ankle-in-One." Unfortunately it was MY ankle. We laughed and laughed, almost to tears. It was a great course with lots of tricky holes that gave us even more occasion for laughter. All in all, we had a great time.
On the way back to Shorty, we walked part of the Palmetto Trail. It's surrounded by one of our favorite plants, the palmetto. They are extremely prolific in this campground and surround our campsite, number fifty-four.
We've settled in now and will soon have our dinner. We baked a delicious cut of corned beef last night along with the rutabaga that I told you about. The cabbage was locally grown Florida cabbage and every bit as good as what we've grown at home in our own garden. Sweet and tender. It was a great meal, fit for St. Paddy himself.
