What I did
Key West Butterfly Conservatory
Yesterday, Thursday, was our day to go out on a Dolphin Watch trip. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other ideas. It got cool and windy.
Our plan for the morning was to go to the Key West Butterfly Conservatory. It's right in the mix of things in the Key city, but Rich, without Lisa's assistance found it fine. It's in a large house-type structure. The main floor and another two stories into the clearstory are the residence of more butterflies than I've ever seen. I got shots of several, for your your viewing pleasure. Since they live only seven to ten days, you'll notice that their wings are a bit tattered
There's a stream that runs through it and a resident turtle. He didn't surface, so all that I got is a shot of his nose peeking out from the water.
It was a definite gem in Key West.
Back to the Dolphin Watch... Our captain, John, called and said that the weather wasn't up to his standards and cancelled our trip. We're disappointed, but grateful for his honest approach to the whole thing. Our money was refunded, in full and we can do it another day.
We had lunch at El Simoney's Cuban Restaurant. I don't know if it's typical Cuban food, but it wasn't very flavorful. I'd expected a tasty treat, but it was not to be
We then drove to the "Southernmost Point in the United States." We swapped picture taking duties with a couple from Long Island, New York. They'd never met anyone from Montana before, so we had a chance to impress them. Not sure if we succeeded or not...
The drive back to the Fandango was good, especially since I napped and arrived refreshed and ready for whatever.
For dinner, we had the snacks that we'd planned on having "out at sea." Cards were played and ore fun was had. One full day left until we separate again...
Thanks for stopping by...
