It got colder than usual last night, down to thirty-eight degrees
Today we had about 120 miles to cover. We wanted to stay off on the Interstate, so chose an alternate route on the CoPilot navigator. All was well until we came to the Pensacola Naval Air Station Main Gate... um, er, sir, can we drive through the base?? Um, okay, we'll turn around just ahead. I would have loved to see the inside of such a place, but...
We were forced to take I-10, but it wasn't bad at all. Nice smooth road and great scenery enroute. After about sixty or eighty miles we headed south toward the Gulf and then the problem arose. We saw the entry to the Mid-Bay Toll Bridge and thought we were in the right place, but...and that's a BIG BUT. You couldn't get there from here. We ended up on a dead end street as a government office of some sort. A supervisor there told Lynn that it had been happening like this for over two years! We backtracked and took his advice and soon found our way
Eventually we got to Grayton Beach SP, about thirty miles from Panama City. It's a great little park and our site opens out to the water. It's obscured on three sides with a nice trail to the water. It continues to be warm here and the heat of the southern sun is obvious. Even though it's just in the low sixties, we're warm enough. We took a short jaunt through the nearly sixty sites and saw lots of cool rigs and friendly people. There are lots of folks on bicycles here. The beach sand is well-compressed, so it would be a good ride.
Tonight we're having Lynn's potato salad, which she made in the parking lot while we were waiting to get our site. This plus a steak cooked on the Weber Q will round out the meal, along with a green salad. Roughage is good for you, as my mother probably told me.
Lots of birds here too... We'll hit the beach trail tomorrow and I'll have more to report.
