Lynnie and I headed out this morning on a hike on one of our favorite trails not far from here.  It's the Lodgepole Trail, of course.  We decided to take it in reverse for a change.  We tried to find the portion of the trail which we used to cross country ski when our two kids were small.

The trail/road was littered with windfallen trees, but we saw lots of wildflowers and it was quiet.  That's an important thing for both of us...quietude on the trail.  We did a modified reverse and covered nearly three and a half miles.  The altitude gain is seven hundred feet plus the ups and downs of the trail itself.  The high point is just a skosh under seven thousand feet.  It's a steady climb in several places and a great workout.  We finished just shortly before noon.

Back at the house, we had lunch and settled in waiting for the storm. The "Sky Bowling" continued for a time, but only a few drops of rain fell.  I was busy reading when Lynnie shouted; "There's the moose!"  I jumped up and grabbed the Fuji and went outside.  It was a large, bull moose, swimming not far offshore.  In spite of my quiet whistle, it continued south of our place and stopped just as he came out of the deep water.  At Lynnie's urging, I got several shots, several of which came out fine.  As he fed on the willows, I noticed that a family of ducks approached his area.  It was a female and eight yellow ducklings.  He did look down at them a couple of times and seemed to be content with sharing his turf.  I also got a couple of videos which need editing.  I'm thinking that my neighbor, Mike, just might offer to edit them.  He's a true master at such.  You there Mike??

It's pouring rain as I write this.  Good for the woods and grasslands and it surely keeps the fire danger in check.  I didn't hear too much thunder, so that's a good thing.

We have had an interesting and exciting day so far.  Just when I was lamenting to our daughter, Lisa, about the lack of moose this year, the big surprise shows up.  It's all good...
