After breakfast I took Dolores out for a short ride to see how my foot would hold up. I removed the toe-clips from the pedals and wore my hiking boots. I did only about two miles, finding an interesting trail in the desert and then came home.
The wind was pretty wild and it was about twenty degrees cooler here today. It got only into the high seventies, but felt much cooler what with the heat we've been experiencing. Oh, I almost forgot. I got some photos of a few white crowned sparrows early. They're cute little birds and feed mostly from the ground
I spent the day reading and playing a bit with the guitar. No name for it yet, but I'm open to suggestions. I did go out into the desert and walk a bit and got some shots of some amazing ocotillo cacti in bloom. They have a beautiful orange that I've rarely seen. I also saw some hedgehogs and buckhorns in bloom. There are lots of rabbits near camp as well as quail, but they're too shy and quick for me to capture them...digitally, of course.
After dinner I took a walk around the campground and got a few more interesting shots in the waning light. My foot seems to be improving and is at least tolerable. I remember back when I was training for a marathon and the strangest parts used to act up. I'm more tolerant of my physical pains now, but they are still a pain in the ass...orted areas. Hmm, must be a typo??
The wind has settled down some and it's quiet. I heard the howls of the local coyotes earlier and it reminded me of how close I am to Scottsdale and yet how wild the area is. It's an easy drive for folks who like to hike or bike on the numerous trails. Not too many rigs in the park. Most of the seventy-six sites are empty.
My plan for tomorrow is to go into Fountain Hills again and visit the Thursday Farmer's Market. I enjoy just walking around and looking Without Lynnie at my side it will be a big change. She calls me about three or four times a day, so it's not like we're really apart. I think I'll call her tomorrow and ask her how the watermelon look and if I should get one... A thought anyway.
