Sonoran Desert Museum

On Thursday, yesterday, we met our amigo Pete, aka Don, at the Desert Museum.  It's just a few miles from our campsite here in the desert.  We were his guests for our first experience there.  It's a huge outdoor museum and covers the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert. We spent about two hours with our amigo and then set out on our own course.  it got hot!  The temp was at least in the mid-eighties and a humidity of zilch.  A light breeze made it habitable, but we soon gave it up and headed back to Shorty with the AC.

While there, we enjoyed the hummingbird spot.  There were about twenty different birds in various colors and even a few fledglings.  The photos will give you a bit of an idea of how it was.

The cactus garden helped us learn a bit more about some our favorite plants.  There are numerous varieties of each species.  Some are not so common and therefore, new to us. We also saw some dozing javelinas and some bighorn sheep.  I'm not wild about seeing animals in captivity, but they looked content.

Later, we picked up Don and went to Tiny's, a cafe on Ajo Road.  He treated us to dinner there.  Both Lynn and I had barbecued spareribs and Don, a fish dinner.  The food was good.  The atmosphere and server was great.  We drove back to camp in the dark!  Interesting, to say the least, what with all of the dips and curves.

This morning, we got out early for a hike near camp.  We were wanting to find a few caches, but none were within easy walking distance.  We did walk a bit over three and a half miles though and it felt great!  I got one photo and can you see what it is?  Give a guess here or on Facebook.  I also post photos on Camco RV on FB.

Tonight, Pete will be here for dinner and with the great weather, we're planning to eat outside, at the picnic table.  Rice artichoke salad and ham are the main dishes, with green salad on the side.  Thanks for taking the time to check in...

It has been fun spending time with you guys over the past weeks, chatting, witnessing your photo techniques and enjoying Lynn's cooking. Thanks to both of you from Duffy and me.

So I have to ask-did the cactus naturally form that face or did someone do some carving? A couple of your bird pictures are real keepers. Still trying to identify the station wagon on the first picture....yeah make and model...plymouth, early 50s? Are you heading to Saguaro National Park?
