The trip to the Tucson area follows Hwy 86 entirely. It's a narrow road with numerous dips in the arroyos or washes in the desert. Due to flashflooding, the road follows the contour to the desert floor to stop road damage. The second factor is the "rock and roll" pitch of the road from left to right. Or is that right to left? In any case, it made for a difficult drive
We got to Gilbert Ray Campground in the Tucson Mountain Park just after lunch time. No Daylight Saving Time here, so it worked out fine for us. There were only about twenty or so empty sites in spite of the fact that it was Sunday, the usual day to head home after the weekend. We were assigned site number 2 in A Loop. Not too level, but with the aid of our trusty blocks, we got level enough for Lynn to get a good night's rest. It's a bit cooler here, due mostly to the greater altitude. We're closer to higher mountains here and the views are every bit as beautiful as in OP. The blossoms are delayed though, which isn't all bad. The allergies are kicking up though and my eyes and nose are in overdrive. This too will pass.
Lynn led me on a tour of a couple of the loops in the campground and we got a few pictures to share. There seem to be enough birds here to add to the music of the earth. We like that. For dinner, I barbecued some shrimp with onion and garlic. We had farfalle pasta with alfredo sauce. These combined with cole slaw with mayo, wine vinegar and basil, made for a fine meal.
The sun sets right out of Shorty's front windshield. It was a "typical' Arizona sunset, nothing special...but you can decide for yourselves which shop you prefer. I did get a shot of a hummingbird which turned out decent. We haven't identified him yet, so could use some help there.
Sleep was good, in the quiet and darkness here. Today we're off to town to re-supply. Later we'll search out a cache or two nearby. Then we'll dine and enjoy life on the road. Lynn is getting excited about returning home. Perhaps that's the distraction that helped me win a game of UNO. It's all good!
