Where I stayed
Salton Sea State Recreation Area
Since we are on Pacific time and our bodies are not, we got out of camp by 9:00AM. The trip to Salton Sea was nearly windless. The traffic increased as we neared Palm Springs, but the road was good and I noticed no "Fine Individuals" lurking about. We stopped for groceries in Yucca Valley and then headed to the campground.
Salton Sea was formed in 1905 by an error on the part of two entrepreneurs who were digging a canal into the valley for agricultural purposes
The camp is about fifty yards from the beach. The "sand" is actually small particles of shells. Sharp in the sandals it is, for sure.
There are only about twenty RV sites here, so it is quiet and serene, between trains. <End of RR whine>
Tomorrow morning there is a bird tour along the lake. Over four hundred species find rest here enroute south and again enroute north later in the year. I'm looking forward to the tour. Lynn on the other hand might just "take a pass". Time will tell.
The internet is a bit iffy here, but if I put my phone in the right location, I can get online to share our antics with you.
Dinner tonight was spaghetti and meatballs made with pork sausage and ground beef. A green salad, made by the Photog, accompanied it. We're having a great time and enjoying the warmth. It got into the seventies today with a light breeze off of the water. We're here for a week, so I'll give you more information as we discover it. I did notice that the price of gasoline has increased about thirty cents a gallon since getting to California. Must be the altitude. Speaking of which, we camped last night at 3800 feet and now were at minus 277 feet. A vast difference in such a short distance. Interesting for a mountaineer like ourselves...
